House League Program
Gloucester Lacrosse house league will have a different look in 2008. The competitive 1 team players, from Novice to Midget, will not play house league this year; they will concentrate on zone play and tournaments. Competitive team 2 players , for this year, will remain in the mix with the other house league players. House league is open to boys and girls in the following divisions; Initiation for 4,5 and 6 year olds; Tyke for 7 & 8 year olds; Novice for 9&10 year olds; Peewee for 11& 12 year olds; Bantam for 13 & 14 year olds; Midget for 15 & 16 year olds. (See The specific program page for birth year to determine which division your child fits in.) House league will run from mid April to the end of June. Warm-up sessions will be offered prior to team placement, followed by round robin house league games and a playoff schedule. All house league players will receive a team jersey for them to keep as well as a T-shirt to remember the season. House league is based on fundamentals and fun, and the coaches will have the opportunity to foster new skills and put them into practice during games. Some Initiation players will have a modified equipment and softer ball with 3 on 3 rules. Typically, the house league will have one practice and one game per week.

In the provincials we will play other teams from across Ontario at the same rating level as our teams. Griffins rep teams are also planning on attending 2-3 tournaments throughout Ontario. Typically the competitive players will have 4 floor times a week + Tournaments. Once the tournaments are completed you can access the results through the Gloucester website.

Initiation Program testimonials
"As a coach of various youth sports, I love coaching lacrosse kids. I find the skills learned in the Peanut program really transfer well to hockey or soccer. Kids who have played lacrosse are more likely to reduce separation between themselves and the opposing ball or puck carrier. At the Novice hockey or U7 soccer age groups, coaches are just beginning to teach pursuit and pressure, and lacrosse at the Peanut level gives those kids a two-year head start on those skills. "

"Peanut lacrosse was my son's introduction to organized sports. Beyond teaching basic lacrosse skills, a focus on team work and, more importantly, having fun were key elements of each practice. We can't wait until next season!"

"Our 4 year "Peanut" Connor treasures the #4 he wore this year as a Gloucester Griffin. The program was so well organized and run that we will be investing the time and money again this year. Connor had very little concept of competitive sports or lacrosse......and for that matter still does, but what he did gained was new friends and an understanding of what it is to belong to a team. He asks weekly "when lacrosse is starting again?"
His biggest accomplishment was learning how to pick up the lacrosse ball with his stick by himself , but more importantly he developed the self confidence to participate in a team sport."

Thank you to GLA and Adam for a wonderful season and we look forward to seeing you again in the spring."
